In Australia, approximately 45% of people will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime (Beyond Blue). Mental health-related compensation claims are among the fastest-growing categories nationally (Safe Work Australia). Mindfulness cultivates presence, focus, and intentional leadership in high-pressure environments, and when embedded organisationally, it strengthens resilience, psychological safety, and connection.
Leith was involved in the first corporate pilot of Smiling Mind for IBM, a mindfulness meditation corporate app delivering results in reducing employee stress. Mindfulness is cultivating focus on the present moment- leading with presence and connection. This state of awareness enables more effective ways of working- tackling stress and disconnection. Workplace stress and poor psychological wellbeing also carry significant economic consequences: given the economic cost of stress-related absenteeism and presenteeism, estimated in the billions annually, structured psychological capability development is no longer optional. More recent economic modelling suggests broader mental health-related productivity losses could be considerably higher when including healthcare and lost output.
Organisations around the world now provide mindfulness programs in the workplace aimed at enhancing resilience, focus and psychological safety in high-pressure environments.
